A Solana-based token tied to a Trump-promoted brand has drawn scrutiny after its launch ended in a steep collapse within hours. Real Trump Coins, a brand Donald Trump publicly promoted in 2024, pushed a token called Trump Digital GOLD on X before removing the posts on Saturday. The project’s website continued to advertise GOLD and a 4% trading fee, while saying most of those fees would be used to buy back tokens.
Launch promotion and rapid retreat
The episode has raised fresh questions about the token’s backers and the trading around its debut. Crypto watchers also questioned whether the Real Trump Coins social account had been compromised, given the sequence of promotion and deletion. The brand’s continued website marketing contrasted sharply with the swift disappearance of its X posts.
Lookonchain said wallets linked to the team sold 224.5 million tokens as the project’s market value dropped by about 99%. That kind of concentration and selling pressure can leave a new token especially vulnerable, because a small group of holders can dominate early trading and absorb much of the available liquidity. In this case, the steep decline left the asset effectively hollowed out almost immediately after launch.
What the token promised
The site framed GOLD as part of an effort to build a top-10 crypto asset by market value. It also described a fee structure that would take 4% from trading activity and direct 99% of those fees toward repurchases. Those claims were part of the token’s pitch even as the market price was collapsing.
The launch also highlighted the risks that come with politically branded crypto products. Tokens that lean on a well-known name can attract fast attention, but they can also face immediate credibility problems if trading patterns look unusual or the project’s controls are unclear. In this case, the sharp fall and the linked wallet sales quickly overshadowed the marketing message.
For the broader market, the episode adds to the long list of highly speculative token launches that can lose most of their value almost as soon as they appear. It also shows how social-media promotion, onchain wallet activity and tokenomics can collide in a matter of hours. When those pieces point in different directions, confidence can vanish just as quickly as it arrived.
