What is Blockchain?

A distributed digital ledger that records transactions in secure, linked blocks, making them nearly impossible to alter.

A blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger that records transactions across many computers in a way that ensures the data cannot be altered retroactively. Each transaction is grouped into a 'block' and added to a chronological 'chain' of previous blocks using cryptographic hashes. This creates a permanent and transparent record.

Because the ledger is distributed across a network, rather than stored in a central location, it is highly resistant to fraud and tampering. While foundational for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, blockchain technology also has applications in supply chain tracking, digital identity verification, and smart contracts.

ExampleWhen you buy an NFT, the record of your ownership is permanently and publicly recorded on a blockchain like Ethereum.
