Twelve large US companies reported over the last seven days, and every one of them posted an EPS figure above consensus, according to the digest. The set was weighted toward technology and software names, with results spanning semiconductors, enterprise storage, cybersecurity and industrial healthcare.

Largest gaps to consensus

Among the larger differences, Dell Technologies reported EPS of 7.04 versus consensus at 4.91, while Snowflake posted 0.62 against 0.45. Hewlett Packard Enterprise reported 1.11 versus 0.93, and NetApp came in at 2.58 against 2.12. These comparisons are indicative only, given that reported and consensus figures may not use the same measure.

Market reaction was uneven

Share-price reactions were not uniform despite the consensus comparisons. Snowflake rose 16.6% on the day, while Dell added 4.9% and HPE gained 5%. By contrast, Broadcom fell 2.7% and Ciena dropped 10.4%, even though both reported EPS above consensus. Zscaler and Samsara also moved higher, while Credo Technology was little changed at -0.6%.

Other names in the batch

The week also included Broadcom, Palo Alto Networks, Medtronic, MongoDB, Credo Technology, Zscaler and Samsara. Their reported EPS figures all came in above consensus, ranging from Medtronic's 1.45 versus 1.39 to Samsara's 0.2 against 0.16. The data point to a broadly favourable earnings run, but the share moves suggest investors continued to distinguish sharply between companies on individual results.

Note: a reported figure and its consensus do not always use the same measure (GAAP or adjusted), so the difference in the table is indicative. Not investment advice.
