Megacaps mostly advance as Apple drops sharply

Six of the seven leading US megacaps were higher on Friday, led by Amazon’s double-digit gain. Apple was the clear laggard, falling nearly 10% while the rest of the group climbed.

The leading US megacaps were broadly higher on Friday, with 6 of the 7 names in the group advancing and only Apple lower. The move was led by Amazon, while Alphabet, Nvidia, Microsoft and Meta also gained and Tesla edged up. Apple stood apart with a sharp decline, making it the clear outlier in an otherwise positive session for the cohort.

What moved and by how much

Amazon rose 14.94% to 270.68, the largest gain in the group by a wide margin. Alphabet added 6.14% to 354.14, while Nvidia gained 2.29% to 199.50 and Microsoft climbed 2.10% to 460.60. Meta advanced 1.89% to 549.22 and Tesla increased 0.75% to 311.17. Apple fell 9.84% to 300.62, the only decline among the seven tracked stocks.

The standouts at each end

At the top of the table, Amazon’s rise was the most pronounced move of the day and accounted for much of the upside momentum in the basket. Alphabet was the next strongest among the larger names, while Nvidia and Microsoft posted solid gains without matching the scale of the leaders. At the other end, Apple’s drop was large enough to offset part of the broader strength and to create a clear two-way split within the group.

What a long-term investor should take from one day

A single session like this mainly shows how concentrated megacap trading can be: a few very large moves can dominate the narrative even when most constituents rise. For long-term investors, the key mechanical point is that index-level performance can look healthier than the weakest names inside it, or vice versa, because these stocks carry substantial weight and can move unevenly on the same day. That makes one-day swings worth noting for risk, but not enough on their own to define a longer-term trend.
