Hyperscale Data ends Michigan Bitcoin mining for AI buildout

Hyperscale Data has switched off all Bitcoin miners at its Michigan site and plans to sell the equipment as it pivots the facility toward an AI customer with long-term capacity contracts.

Hyperscale Data has shut down all Bitcoin mining at its Michigan facility, marking another step in its effort to turn the site into artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company said the miners were powered off after an inspection by a California-based neocloud customer whose name was not disclosed.

The move comes as the company’s Bitcoin stash has shrunk sharply. Hyperscale Data’s holdings are now 215 BTC, down about 79% from late July, as it continues to redirect capital away from mining and toward the Michigan AI project.

From Bitcoin rigs to AI capacity

The company said it plans to sell the mining equipment tied to the facility. That decision reflects a broader shift in the site’s purpose, from producing Bitcoin to hosting computing power for an AI user.

Hyperscale Data said the customer has signed a 10-year master services agreement for 20 megawatts of capacity, with two possible five-year extensions. If all of those options are used, the deal could generate more than $1.2 billion over 20 years.

An extra 32 MW option could lift the potential value of the arrangement above $3 billion. The Michigan site is expected to be able to support 340 MW in total, leaving room for a much larger buildout if the project advances as planned.

What the shutdown means for the site

The end of mining at the facility removes a source of crypto output but strengthens the company’s push into AI data center services. For Hyperscale Data, the economics appear to be shifting from variable Bitcoin production to contracted infrastructure revenue over a longer horizon.

The change also shows how some crypto-linked operators are repurposing physical assets as demand for AI computing grows. In this case, the company is choosing to clear out mining hardware and prepare the site for a different kind of customer and workload.
