Strategy shifted capital away from fresh Bitcoin accumulation this week and into its own securities, repurchasing $176.3 million of STRC preferred shares. The move came as the company also widened its digital securities repurchase program, signaling a stronger focus on balance-sheet management alongside its Bitcoin strategy.
Repurchase program expands
In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Strategy said it bought back 1.8 million STRC shares between Aug. 31 and Sept. 7. The company increased the size of its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program to $2 billion from its previous level, giving it more room to continue buying back preferred or similar securities.
The repurchase comes during a period when Strategy has been among the most active corporate buyers of Bitcoin. The company did not add to its BTC stack in the latest week, leaving its holdings unchanged. That pause stands out because Strategy had just returned to buying last week after a stretch without a fresh purchase since mid-June.
Bitcoin treasury stays unchanged
Strategy now holds 845,050 Bitcoin, with a stated cost basis of $63.6 billion and an average purchase price of $75,412 per coin. Those figures make the company the largest corporate Bitcoin treasury by a wide margin and keep its balance sheet closely tied to the direction of the crypto market.
The latest action highlights a second use for the company’s capital: supporting the value of its own listed securities. STRC shares were little changed in premarket trading on Tuesday, changing hands at $97.70, which was described as a discount to par value. Buybacks can help absorb supply, but they also reduce cash that might otherwise have gone toward Bitcoin purchases.
For investors tracking Strategy as a proxy for Bitcoin exposure, the weekly pattern now matters as much as the total coin count. A halt in buying does not alter the existing treasury position, but it does show that management is willing to use liquidity elsewhere when it sees an opportunity in its preferred stock structure.
That approach may matter for market sentiment because Strategy has become one of the most visible corporate holders of Bitcoin and one of the most closely watched issuers in digital-asset-linked financing. Its latest decision suggests the company is balancing two priorities: preserving the value of its securities while keeping its core Bitcoin position intact.
